Secondary 2023
Our Secondary school challenges students both personally and academically, encouraging them to be ambitious, think critically, and become leaders.
Exceptional learning experiences – both in and outside of the classroom – broaden our students’ horizons, while an outstanding choice of IGCSE options enables our students to follow their passions and talents.
BENEFITS
-
IGCSE and A Level courses provide international recognition from all universities, enable students to study anywhere in the world and are accepted and acknowledged for their prestige.
-
A well-supported, clear path to university involves several key steps and strategies to ensure a successful transition from high school to higher education.
-
Strong academic focus while looking at the individual student and their starting points.
-
Close contact with a dedicated form tutor who looks at pastoral care and liaises with all subject teachers to ensure students are thriving across all areas.
-
International trips for curriculum areas including languages, skiing and COBIS sports competitions.
-
Allows for second chances: as the International A-Levels subjects are organised into separate modules, students who want to improve their grades can retake a particular module more than once.
ABOUT THE CURRICULUM
The advantages of International A-Levels compared to conventional A-Levels or the International Baccalaureate:
-
IALs are no exception, all universities in the world accept them and grant the same prestige.
-
Separating the exam content into four different series increases the probability of achieving better results.
-
Obtaining official grades in Year 12 means that the predicted grades are backed by an official grade, giving universities greater security.
-
As there are four different examination series, students face the same content but in small doses, thus reducing stress. In addition, they gain more experience sitting official exams and learning to deal with pressure.
-
Regular exams are the “acid test” for meeting expectations. Students are more efficiently tracked in four separate exam series.
SECONDARY CURRICULUM STAGES
Key Stage 3:
Year 7, 8, and 9
With a focus on subjects like modern foreign languages, history, and geography, we empower students to make their own choices and engage parents in decision-making.
We facilitate IGCSE exams for selected subjects, ensuring students are prepared for further education or the workforce.
Our support includes classroom assistance for students with English as an additional language, while regular assessments and goal communication foster continuous learning and growth.
Key Stage 4
Year 10 and 11
In Years 10 and 11, our students undertake IGCSE exams, which offer a wide range of subject choices and exceptional learning opportunities. Alongside core subjects like English, maths, and science, students can specialize in subjects that align with their interests, strengths, and aspirations. Options include history, geography, ICT, modern foreign languages, music, drama, art, PE, and business studies.
With 8-10 subjects available, students can tailor their learning based on their preferences. Our rigorous IGCSE program fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and the application of knowledge in real-world contexts. This equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in higher education and beyond. Many of our subjects incorporate international elements, ensuring the relevance of topics for our diverse student body.
END-OF-YEAR EXPECTATIONS
To support parents and carers in their child's education, we have created information booklets outlining the end-of-year expectations for Secondary school. Access the reader below to learn more or download a copy for your child's specific year group. These booklets detail the skills that students should have by the end of their current year, ensuring they are prepared for the following year's curriculum. We encourage you to utilize these resources to support our efforts in helping your child reach their full potential. Additionally, teachers will provide progress updates during Parent-Teacher Consultation (PTC) meetings throughout the year.

New campus, opening in September 2023
A beautifully designed, purpose-built new campus for The British School of Vilnius with the classrooms and learning spaces designed to help bring your child’s learning to life.

Let’s Start This Journey Together
There are many reasons why The British School of Vilnius stands out from the crowd. The main one is our community of staff, parents and students. We are very fortunate to have exceptional people make up our BSV community. However, it does not stop there, it’s also the setting - the building, the grounds, the location.
