STAFF PROFILE - TEACHER

MICHAEL SLAUGHTER

“I BELIEVE THAT A POSITIVE STUDENT-TEACHER RELATIONSHIP IS KEY TO UNLOCKING ALL CHILDREN’S POTENTIAL.”

I have been teaching for nearly 12 years , both as an English Language teacher and as a homeroom teacher. I first worked in South Korea and Japan with students of all ages, from 2 - 18. After realising that I particularly enjoyed teaching primary aged children, I returned to the UK to gain my PGCE in primary education from the University of Gloucestershire in 2019. Since then, I have been working as a primary homeroom teacher at international schools in Lithuania and Latvia. This experience means I have a good understanding of the needs of both students from the local area and from further afield.

I believe that a positive student-teacher relationship is the key to unlocking all children's potential. A student who likes their teacher and enjoys their lessons is a student who is constantly motivated to do their best. However, I also understand each student's best work is not the same, and that all children should be celebrated for their progress and achievements, and not to be compared to others.

About Mr Slaughter

Outside of school, I love to play music! Even in the classroom, a guitar is never far from my hands! I can mainly play guitar or drums, but I enjoy trying and learning any instrument I can.
